Teachers’ use of strategies to build coherent instructional sequences is important in student learning (Roth et. al., 2011). Previous studies investigated teachers’ ability to design or distinguish coherent instructional sequences. However, teachers’ ability to distinguish coherent instructional sequences in relation to their academic and teaching background needs to be studied further. Therefore, I conducted a qualitative exploratory study with 21 K-12 teachers using self-reported questionnaires and follow-up interviews to investigate teachers’ understanding of coherence, if teachers prefer coherent instructional sequences and their justifications for their selections.
